Websites for Dominican Spas and Beauty Salons

Websites for Dominican Spas and Beauty Salons

A spa sells two things a website is unusually good at carrying: a list of treatments with prices, and the ability to book one. Most Dominican spas and salons publish neither.

We have not run a formal study of this sector yet. What we have is a study of 64 Dominican restaurants, and the problem there turns out to be exactly the same problem — a priced list of what you offer, locked inside a photograph.

The service menu is the same problem as the food menu

In our restaurant study, 10 of 64 restaurants published a menu as readable text with prices on their own website. That is 16%. The other 84% had the menu as a photo, a PDF, a Scribd upload, a link to a delivery app, or a dead link.

A spa service list has the same structure. Treatment name, duration, price. And it fails the same way: as a carousel of Instagram graphics, as a WhatsApp image somebody sends on request, as a PDF, or not at all.

This matters more for a spa than for a restaurant, for one reason. A restaurant customer standing in Bávaro will walk in and look at the printed menu. A spa customer is deciding in advance, often days in advance, often while still at home in another country, whether a 90-minute massage is worth what you charge. If they cannot find out, they book the hotel spa instead.

Why "DM for prices" costs you money here

It is standard practice in the Dominican beauty sector to keep prices off the internet and handle them in direct messages. The reasons are understandable: prices change, there is room to negotiate, and a competitor can undercut a published number.

Three things to weigh against that.

Published prices are what machines quote. In our study of AI recommendations, one assistant quoted businesses' published rates back with attribution, and Google's guidance on AI features says plainly that important content has to be available in text form. A business whose prices exist only in a DM thread cannot be quoted, cannot be compared, and is left out of the answer.

A hotel guest with two hours free will not start a conversation. They will search, find a price, and go. Every message you require is a step where you lose somebody.

And your competitors are the hotel spas, who publish everything. If a visitor can see the resort spa's full price list and not yours, you are competing on convenience and losing before price enters it.

You do not have to publish your lowest price or every variation. A clear range per treatment category — "Massage, 60 to 90 minutes, RD$2,500 to RD$4,000" — does most of the work.

Your Google category is doing more than you think

A spa listed on Google as "Beauty salon" and a spa listed as "Day spa" will appear for different searches and in different AI answers. So will "Nail salon", "Hair salon", "Massage therapist" and "Medical spa".

Pick the primary category for the thing that actually brings in the most revenue, then add the others as secondary. This is a two-minute change that nobody makes. We have a full walkthrough of the listing, and separately what the listing teaches AI about you.

While you are in there: the single most common fault we find across every Dominican sector is a website link in the Google listing that goes nowhere. In the restaurant sample, 22% of businesses had a website or menu link that was dead, expired or a placeholder. Click your own link, on a phone, right now.

Booking is where a spa site earns its cost

For most Dominican businesses, we argue the website is a secondary priority behind the Google listing. A spa is one of the exceptions, because booking is a real transaction a web page can complete.

What that needs:

• Treatments with durations and prices, as text

• Live availability, or at minimum a request form that states when you will reply

• WhatsApp as a visible fallback, not as the only option

• A cancellation policy, stated before the booking rather than after

• Whether you serve men, women or both, which sounds obvious and is frequently unclear

• Your actual location and parking situation, because a spa appointment is a timed commitment

If online booking is genuinely not practical for you, a form that promises a reply within a stated window is far better than a phone number alone. The thing you cannot afford is a page that lists services beautifully and offers no way to act.

Two audiences, one price list

A Dominican spa typically serves locals who come monthly and tourists who come once. They search differently, in different languages, and want different things from the page.

The local customer wants hours, location, price and whether their regular stylist is in. The visitor wants to know what the treatment is, whether it is safe and clean, whether anyone speaks their language, and how far it is from their hotel.

That argues for both language versions as real pages rather than a translate widget — and our testing found that asking the same question in English and Spanish produced almost entirely different lists of recommended businesses. If you only exist in one language, you only exist to half the market.

Photos are your product, and they are also your page weight

Beauty is a visual sector, so these sites are image-heavy by nature. That is fine until it is not.

In our hotel study, the median homepage weighed 8.05 MB and the median time for the main content to appear on a mid-range phone was 17.1 seconds. Only one site in 36 got under four seconds, and none reached Google's 2.5-second "good" threshold. Those sites were image-heavy for the same reason yours is.

The fix is not fewer photos. It is correctly sized, modern-format, lazily-loaded photos — a technical job that a developer does once and the business never thinks about again. We have written about what image formats actually change.

The Instagram trap, specifically for this sector

Beauty is the one Dominican sector where running entirely on Instagram is almost defensible. The work is visual, the audience is there, and the before-and-after post is a genuinely good sales tool.

Two things it cannot do.

It cannot be found by someone who does not already know you exist. A visitor searching "massage near Bávaro" is served Google results and AI answers assembled from listings and websites. An Instagram account is not in that pipeline in any reliable way.

And it is not yours. The account, the follower list and every price you have ever posted in a caption sit on a platform that can change its rules or lose you the login. Your treatment list and your booking path should live somewhere you own, with Instagram pointing at it.

The practical version is not "abandon Instagram." It is: keep posting, and make the link in your bio go to a page with your services, prices and a booking form on a domain you control.

What we would do first, in order

If you run a spa or salon in the Dominican Republic and have limited time and money, this is the order.

1. Fix the Google listing: correct category, current hours, working website link, recent photos.

2. Publish your treatment list with prices or price ranges, as text, on a page you control.

3. Add a booking path — live availability if you can, a form with a stated reply time if you cannot.

4. Make sure that page exists in both Spanish and English as separate pages.

5. Only then worry about how the site looks.

That order is deliberately unflattering to us. The first step is free and the second one barely needs a designer. We would rather you did them.

If you want someone to build the part that does need building, DR Web Studio works with businesses across the Dominican Republic — contact us for a free consultation.

A note on what is measured here

The restaurant, hotel and AI-recommendation figures in this post come from our own fieldwork and are linked above. The spa-specific reasoning is not a study — we have not yet measured this sector, and we have said so rather than dressing an argument up as data. If we run it, we will publish the counts, including the ones that are inconvenient.
