How We Built a Full Business Platform for a Punta Cana Event Planner That Grew Sales 150%

Most web development projects end at launch. You build the site, hand over the keys, and the client figures out the rest. The Sertuin Events project was different from the beginning — because what Grecia Mejía needed wasn't just a website. She needed a complete digital business system.

Grecia runs Sertuin Events, one of Punta Cana's leading event planning companies, specializing in destination weddings, marriage proposals, birthday celebrations, bachelor parties, corporate events, and luxury floral design. Her clients are international couples and corporate teams flying into the Dominican Republic for once-in-a-lifetime experiences. They expect a level of professionalism in every touchpoint — including the digital one.

The result of our partnership was a bilingual, full-stack web application combining a public-facing marketing site with an internal business management system: quote generation, automated PDF contracts, client database, Firebase-authenticated admin portal, and a testimonial collection engine. After launch, Sertuin Events saw 150% growth in sales.

Here's the full story.

The Client: Grecia Mejía and Sertuin Events

Grecia Mejía is not a typical event planner. Based in Punta Cana and fluent in the nuances of destination events, she has built Sertuin Events around a philosophy that every event — from an intimate beachside proposal to a 200-person corporate incentive trip — deserves the same attention to detail and emotional intelligence.

Her services span the full spectrum of events in Punta Cana: destination wedding planning and coordination, all-inclusive wedding packages, marriage proposal packages, elopements and vow renewals, birthday celebrations, gender reveal and baby shower events, bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate events and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events), equipment rental, and luxury floral design.

Before the new platform, Grecia was managing this complexity manually — WhatsApp conversations, emailed PDFs, spreadsheet client tracking, and a basic website that didn't reflect the caliber of events she was producing. The gap between the experience of working with Sertuin Events and the digital experience of finding and hiring them was holding her business back.

"Every event is a story you feel, live, and remember." — Grecia Mejía, Sertuin Events

That philosophy drove every decision we made in building the platform.

The Challenge: More Than a Website

When Grecia came to us, the brief was clear: she needed a platform that could do what she was doing manually, but better, faster, and at scale. The specific requirements broke down into two layers.

The public layer needed to showcase every service category with enough depth and visual richness to convert international visitors who would never meet Grecia in person before booking. It needed to be fully bilingual — English for international clients, Spanish for the domestic Dominican market. It needed to rank in Google for competitive search terms like "wedding planner Punta Cana" and "proposals Punta Cana." And it needed to be fast enough that visitors on hotel WiFi or mobile data would stay on the page long enough to become clients.

The business layer was the more ambitious challenge. Grecia needed to generate professional, branded PDF quotes for potential clients — dynamically, based on the services they selected. She needed those quotes to auto-generate into contracts. She needed a secure database to store client information. She needed an admin portal she could access from anywhere to manage it all. And she needed the system to collect testimonials from past clients and display them on the site.

This was not a static marketing website. This was a web application with full backend functionality — and it needed to look like a luxury brand while functioning like enterprise software.

The Technology Stack

For a project of this scope, we made deliberate choices at every layer of the stack.

Gatsby.js as the frontend framework was the right choice for this specific combination of requirements. Gatsby's static site generation pre-builds every public-facing page at deploy time — pulling content from Contentful and generating fully-rendered HTML. This means Google crawls actual content, not JavaScript that needs to execute first. It means page load times that feel instant. And it means Grecia's event service pages, package catalogs, and blog posts all rank as standalone, well-optimized pages rather than single-page app routes that search engines struggle to index. This is the JAMstack architecture applied to a real business problem.

Contentful as the Headless CMS manages all the content Grecia updates regularly: event packages, service descriptions, photo galleries, blog posts, rental equipment listings, and floral arrangement collections. When she needs to add a new wedding package or update pricing on a rental item, she does it in Contentful without touching code. The site rebuilds automatically through Netlify's continuous deployment pipeline. This is the operational independence every small business owner needs — and it's exactly why we recommend headless CMS architecture over traditional WordPress setups for growing businesses.

Firebase was the backbone of the entire business management system. We used Firebase Authentication for the admin portal (Google Sign-In only, so only authorized users can access the backend), Firestore as the real-time database for client records and quote data, and Cloud Storage for uploaded documents and assets. Firebase's real-time synchronization means that when Grecia opens the admin dashboard from her phone between events, she sees the current state of everything — new inquiries, pending contracts, client notes.

React-PDF solved one of the most complex requirements: professional, branded PDF document generation in the browser. When a potential client fills out the wedding questionnaire on the Sertuin Events site, the system calculates a budget estimate, formats it into a branded PDF with Grecia's logo, package breakdowns, terms, and contact information, and makes it ready for download or email delivery. The same system generates client contracts. What was previously hours of manual document preparation became a one-click workflow.

Nodemailer handled the email automation layer. Booking inquiries trigger automatic confirmation emails. Quotes are delivered via email directly from the platform. Contract signing reminders go out automatically. For an event planning business where communication timing affects whether a lead converts or goes cold, this automation layer was as important as any design decision.

Tailwind CSS gave us the styling framework to build a luxury brand aesthetic efficiently. The site needed to look like a high-end event portfolio — not a template. Every section uses custom layouts, curated spacing, and visual hierarchy that communicates Grecia's caliber before a visitor reads a word. On mobile, where the majority of international clients first discover Sertuin Events while scrolling Instagram, the site responds flawlessly to every screen size.

Netlify hosts the entire platform with global CDN distribution and automated deployments triggered by content updates in Contentful. When Grecia publishes new photos from a recent wedding, the site rebuilds and deploys in minutes with no manual intervention required.

The Public Platform: Selling Destination Events to the World

For international clients planning destination weddings or proposals in Punta Cana, the website is often the first — and most critical — trust-building touchpoint with Grecia before they commit to a multi-thousand-dollar event.

The homepage establishes the brand immediately with full-screen imagery from real events — not stock photography. Real flowers, real venues, real moments captured by the same photographers Sertuin Events works with. The visual quality signal is deliberate: if this is what their website looks like, imagine what their events look like.

Service pages were built to answer the specific questions international clients have before booking a destination event planner. What is included in a proposal package? What venues do you work with? What does a full wedding coordination engagement actually entail? Each page goes deep — detailed package descriptions, photo galleries, FAQs, and clear calls to action that route to the contact form or the wedding questionnaire.

The wedding packages section is particularly sophisticated. Rather than a static PDF or a simple pricing table, we built an interactive planning tool where couples can select services, choose package tiers, and see a budget estimate build in real time. This tool reduces the friction of the initial inquiry dramatically — instead of an email that says "I'm interested in a wedding, how much does it cost?", Grecia receives inquiries that include the couple's vision, estimated guest count, preferred services, and a budget range. The quality of lead intake improved as much as the quantity.

The equipment rentals catalog was built dynamically from Contentful — every table, chair, arch, linen, and decoration item has its own entry with photos, descriptions, and availability notes. Clients can browse the full catalog and include specific items in their inquiry. This section supports both individual event clients and other event planners who rent from Sertuin.

The floral art section operates as both a portfolio and a service catalog — showcasing past arrangements by style and occasion while linking to the inquiry flow for clients who want a custom floral design proposal.

Multilingual Architecture: English and Spanish Done Right

Destination event planning in Punta Cana requires genuine bilingual capability — not a Google Translate button. Sertuin Events serves international couples (primarily English-speaking) alongside local Dominican clients and Spanish-speaking Latin American visitors.

We implemented full bilingual routing at the URL level — /proposal/ and /es/proposal/ are distinct, fully-rendered pages with properly localized content, separate meta titles and descriptions optimized for English and Spanish search terms respectively, and hreflang tags that tell Google exactly which page to show to which audience.

This is the difference between i18n done right and i18n done as an afterthought. The Spanish version isn't a translation — it's a localized experience. The tone, the CTAs, and even the imagery emphasis differ between the two language versions based on what we know about how Dominican versus international clients approach event planning research. This approach mirrors the multilingual strategies we've refined across our tourism and hospitality clients in the Dominican Republic.

The blog system is also fully bilingual, with content managed in Contentful and pages generated at build time for both language versions. SEO value compounds in both English and Spanish simultaneously.

The Admin Platform: Running a Business From Your Phone

The internal business management system is where this project became something more than a website build.

The admin portal is protected by Firebase Authentication — Grecia accesses it with her Google account, and nobody else can. From the dashboard, she can see all active client records, create new quote requests, generate PDF proposals with a single click, convert approved quotes into contracts, and track the status of each client through the event planning lifecycle.

The quote generation system was one of the most technically interesting components of the build. A quote for a destination wedding involves potentially dozens of line items — planner coordination fees, venue sourcing, floral budget, decor rentals, photography coordination, transportation, catering guidance, accommodation assistance, and more. We built a quote builder that lets Grecia select services, enter client-specific pricing, add notes, and generate a professional branded PDF in seconds.

The contract system takes the approved quote and populates a legal document template with the client's name, event details, total amount, payment schedule, and terms. The contract is generated as a PDF and delivered to the client via automated email — all within the platform, without switching between tools.

The testimonial system allows Grecia to invite past clients to share their experience through a dedicated submission page. Submitted testimonials go through the admin portal for approval before appearing on the public site, giving Grecia quality control while automating what was previously a manual process of asking clients for quotes and copy-pasting them into the site. Social proof that sells.

SEO: Ranking for the Searches That Matter

For Sertuin Events, the highest-value search terms are deeply local and intent-specific: "wedding planner Punta Cana," "proposal Punta Cana," "bachelor party Punta Cana," and their Spanish equivalents. These are queries from people who have already chosen Punta Cana as their destination and are actively looking for the person who will execute their vision.

Gatsby's static generation ensures every page is served as pre-rendered HTML — which means Google can read and index the full content of every service page, every package description, and every blog post without needing to execute JavaScript first. This is a meaningful SEO advantage over React single-page applications or server-rendered frameworks that aren't optimized for crawlability.

Each page has individually crafted meta titles and descriptions in both languages, structured data markup for the business and services, Open Graph tags for social sharing, and clean URL structures that signal topical relevance to Google's algorithms.

The blog acts as a long-form content hub supporting the main service pages. An article like "Complete Guide to Organizing Events in Punta Cana" captures informational queries from early-funnel visitors who are just beginning their destination event research — and then routes them toward Sertuin's services. This hub-and-spoke content model is exactly the kind of SEO architecture that compounds over time.

The Results: 150% Sales Growth

After launching the new platform, Sertuin Events experienced 150% growth in sales.

That number reflects the combined impact of several compounding improvements: better-converting service pages that communicate Grecia's expertise before the first conversation, the interactive wedding planner tool that qualifies leads before they hit her inbox, the automated quote and contract system that eliminates delays in the sales cycle, multilingual SEO that opened the Spanish-speaking market alongside the English-speaking one, and the professional presentation that justifies premium pricing for premium events.

The admin system's contribution to that number is easy to underestimate. When a business owner spends less time creating documents manually, they have more time to sell, to deliver, and to grow. The operational leverage of automated quote and contract generation — compounded across dozens of events per year — is substantial.

Grecia put it plainly in her own words:

"Every event is a story you feel, live, and remember."

That's the standard she holds for the events she produces. The platform we built holds itself to the same standard — and the sales results reflect that alignment.

What This Project Demonstrates About Web Development

The Sertuin Events platform is the clearest example in our portfolio of what happens when web development is treated as a business problem rather than a design project.

The question we answered wasn't "how do we make a beautiful website for an event planner?" It was "how do we build a system that lets Grecia spend less time on administrative overhead and more time closing clients and producing exceptional events?"

The technology choices — Gatsby for SEO and performance, Contentful for content independence, Firebase for business data management, React-PDF for document automation — all flow from that business question. Beauty follows function. And the 150% sales growth follows the right function.

If you run a service business in the Dominican Republic — an event planner, a hotel, a tour operator, a restaurant, a photography studio — and your digital infrastructure isn't actively growing your sales, the gap between where you are and where you could be is exactly what we build.
